What do you people think? I think it has to do with the skin color and maybe hair. Does any one agree?
Do you think there are more whites and biracial kids on tv commercials or modeling in magazines?
White and light sell, thats what it comes down to.
The media is controlled by white people and they like to push their ideas of beauty onto their consumers.....which is anything that isnt black....
Black people also buy into the white is beauty ideal, due to how they where manipulated during salvery times....so you see black women like Beyonce, Mary J Blidge, Tyra living up to the white image..long blonde weave, when have you ever seen their natural hair...sad but true!!
To the first person that commented, who told you that their are more white people in the world?....i suggest you do research before you make claims like that

If that is the case, then what does that tell you? It tells you there is an open market out there so get to it and stop discussing it with folks who are going to downplay everything that you say and feel. It's pointless...
JUST DO IT!

Do you think there are more whites and biracial kids on tv commercials or modeling in magazines?
No. I find the media has been doing a pretty good job of pushing racial equality within the arts and entertainment industry. Let go of your confirmation bias and you'll see.

I'm Biracial(white/black), And I feel theres often more Biracial and white people on tv, magazines. It all depends on what the demographic theyre trying to sell there product to,an example of which is Du-Rags mostly marketed toward people of color(latino and black) whereas viagra markets towards middle aged white males.

Y'know, I've noticed that. Even when it's an ad that's focused on the black demographic, especially if there are children in it, the little boy might be black, but the girl is always mixed...light skin, curly hair, etc. I may have seen like, one or two commercials where the black girl was dark-skinned and/or had kinky hair. Of course, there are a lot more dark-skinned women in commercials (by comparison), but if it's just kids, and it's not a cartoon, the girl is mixed. I do think it has to do with the skin color and the hair. I agree.
And it does have an influence on people, because I remember watching Pantene commercials when I was like three, and they had this long, flowing hair, and they were always talking about their split-ends. So what did I do? I grabbed the nearest pair of scissors and started chopping off my hair. My mother caught me and whooped my ***, lol. I told her I wanted to use Pantene so I could have hair like that. She said "you have to have hair like that to get hair like that." It made it seem unattainable, and I began to resent the "grade" of my hair. I didn't really understand her until I got older. My mom loved my natural hair. What she was saying was that "that image does not represent YOU." But still, I felt somehow less pretty because in the late 80's/early 90's, there really were virtually NO representations of people that looked like me.

yes...
Marketing structures are based on a market and a target audience.
all casting, production, wardrobe and writing are based on what producers think will reflect who they want to reach. As you can see. most have white hosts, casts, news anchors, etc.
