6-7. I'd stand over them and be sure they could get all the soap out of their hair. That was always the hardest part for my kids. I still have to rinse my 8 yr. old son's hair sometimes.

Both my boys between 5 and 6 years old.

Don't forget the non-slip mat for showers..;-)

My 4.5 yr old has started wanting to take showers by himself...he washes his own hair...it's still hit or miss as to whether he gets all of the shampoo out.

He wants to do it 'by myself'...but seeing as he's still just 4.5, I keep the bathroom door open and check on him often (the bathroom's in a very central place in the house).

every child is differnt but mine stared to take complete baths by them self when he was four I still kept an eye on him from a distance to make sure he did not drownd or anything like that.

Taylor was 5 and Emma justed started last year. I think 5 is a good age to start.

My boys are 7 and 8 and they now take showers.. and wash their hair by themselves but for girls it might be different because they have much more hair to get the shampoo out of..

To be honest sometimes I have to help my oldest son was his hair because he doesnt like to get water in his eyes.. so I will make him take his shower and then after that we will go to the bathtub and I will wash his hair under a faucet..

I was 5-6, before that it was hard to get the soap and conditioner out (I had realllly long hair).

Mine were around age 7. But I also had a strategy. I would take a marker that was water soluable and mark them. Would put marks behind their ears, on the back of their necks, behind their knees, in the crook of their elbows, and under their arms. They had fun getting their marks and I knew they were at least trying to get clean if they were all gone when they were done.

I started at about 9, before that I was really terrible at rinsing the shampoo out of my hair.

My son was 4-5. (He used tearless shampoo so I never had to worry about him hurting his eyes.) But it depends on you child. My son is very independent. When he told me that he wanted to bathe by himself I had some doubts. I didn't want him to fall in the tub and drown so I started giving him showers instead of baths. I'd always fix the water for him, let him wash himself and I'd rinse him off. Then I started letting him shower alone and I'd keep check on him (I'd stay in the bathroom, but let him keep the curtain closed). After a couple of days, when I realized he could shower just fine alone, I'd knock, crack the door open and ask if he was ok, about every 5 minutes. He is 8 now and he runs his own water and everything. If your child says they are ready to bathe or shower on their own, let them try it. Or if you think they are ready ask them if they would like to try. (Just remember to remove any razors that are in the tub/shower. My mom forgot to do that once when my son was spending the night and he cut his thumb.) Also if you don't have and slip guards in the tub/shower you'll want to invest in some.

5 for me!

Well my younger two kids still don't.

My daughter though, she was 5. It was when I had my first son, and she would take a shower in the bathroom while I bathed her brother at the sink in the same bathroom, so i was there if she needed me, but she did all the washing[ including her hair] by herself.

my son was 7 when he all of the sudden wouldn't let me see him naked any more. so there have been a few times he had to go rewash cuz he didn't do it well enough.

My son's 8 and has just got to the point where he never needs any help. But his hair's short. I had to help my daughter rinse her hair until she was 9 going on 10.

My Godsons: the oldest started doing it all by himself and did a great job of it when he was 5. The youngest bless his heart is 7 now and can't get the job done without some kind of help...lol

How old were your kids when they took baths (including hair washing) without any help from parents?

Depends on the child. My oldest (6) started at 3 on his own and by 4 could wash his own hair. My middle child (4) started baths alone later than my first, but still at 3, he can wash his hair but still needs me to remind him to rinse good. Now my youngest (3.5) still does not shower alone and I will not allow him to because of maturity issues. You know your child best I would say typical kids could probably do this around 5yrs.

I was 10, but my parents told me I was babied too long anyway, so I would say 7 or 8

well, my daughter is 6, going to be 7 in march, and she completely washes herself, even her hair, but I have to help her to rinse it. but her hair is down to her butt, so if it were shorter she would probably be able to rinse it herself.
