How long does it take for head lice eggs (nits) to show up in a childs hair?

My neice just started pre-school and ended up getting head lice. My brother and the mother are not together and do not have a good relationship. Therefore, she is blaming my neices head lice on my brothers new gf's kids. Those kids were checked in school and are clear of head lice. There was a paper signed stating they didnt, and dont have head lice. At this point, the lice were gone. My neice was over for the weekend and evidently was checked in school again just today (monday) and evidently they found a few eggs. The school claims that she "had to have gotten them this weekend" and of course the mother is blaming my brother again. So my quesiton is how long does it take for eggs to show up? And is it possible that the eggs could be left over from before?

She could have come into contact with another child while playing over the week-end or she may have gotten them from your brothers new gf children. Or, the brothers new gf children may have gotten them from her! Your niece may have had them for a couple of weeks and a couple of nits were missed in the last checking. Was your niece's mum going through her head every night with a lice comb after treating her? Needs to be done, seven days....

Tis the lice season. I know, I'm the lice queen in the neighbourhood. First mum to find a louse phones me to check their kids and family and treat. I do everyone around here.

I agree it happens, but I also see that many men gain weight as well. I think it is true that it is due in part to the "comfort" factor and knowing that you now have a man. But I also think it is because women cook more and make big meals for their husbands. Of course, if both would agree to turn off the tv and take up a physical activity together, much of the weight gain could be prevented. As you age, metabolism slows and it becomes More and more challenging to maintain a healthy weight. Exercise is key : )

There are several reasons for this type of behavior.

1. They do feel the chase is over and feel that there is no reason to work so hard to look nice anymore. *This is a VERY small percentage of women! Most fall into category 2....

2. After getting married, men also stop trying hard to impress their woman and tend to stop acting sweet %26amp; nice %26amp; kind %26amp; gentle and all the things they were before marrying. Then on top of that stark realization (that the honeymoon is OVER), many women tend to feel VERY unattractive after having a baby and need more love, attention and positive reinforcement from their man. Men don't understand why they should feel any different and so they don't change their behavior at all. So instead of losing the fat gained naturally during pregnancy, the women shut down emotionally and just don't give a damn anymore, except to take care of their baby.

This is NOT to say that men are at fault for this phenomenon.

But the blame can be shared.

Men are naturally not quite as "in tune" with others' needs as women are and therefore do not clue into the fact that they need to continue to be just as loving and as wonderful as they were when the "chase was still on". This is important and is a necessity in keeping a marriage alive, happy, open and loving.

Women unfortunaetly are driven a lot by hormones and emotional matters. If they feel that their man has stopped caring as much as he did before, it takes a toll on a woman's heart and soul. And when they are at their morst vulnerable and weakest (i.e. during pregnancy and after childbirth), they need more love and understanding than ever before. But she also needs to be understanding of her own body, sanity and strength. And she needs to ASK for what she needs from her partner instead of just assuming that he should know what she needs. Communication is again another very important key to a successful relationship.

So there you have it - it's a two way street, as all conflicts are.

After you been with some one for so long looks aren't recognized as much. I remember when my guy always told me i was pretty or sexy, after a while they just get use to it. its no longer new. Also when you start living together it can be uncomfortable doing grooming things infront of guys or the exact oppiste you become comfortable and that magic is gone. Men can let themselve go too, and if he isn't bothering to look good for me why should i for him? Also when the compliments stop coming, the little gifts and dates aren't happening you don't give us a reason to dress up and look good. Those were the reason we did that.

And the kids thing; men can want kids as much as women and some don't want their wives to work. They feel they should stay at home and care for the kids. Some men still have that mind set. And its kind of pig headed to say they have kids so they don't have to work. Raising a kid is alot of work. Something you don't have expience with since you don't even recognize raising another human being from scratch as 'work". Also women feel guilty going back to work (you have no idea how much redicule a mom can go through for not being at home with the kids, or how guilty she feels when she misses their first steps and words becuase of work). Short hair usually happens becuase of the kids. You never have time for yourself, so you don't have the time to style your hair and the kids end up throwing something in it and pulling on it so its just easier to make it short. What wrong with short hair anyways? There's plenty of women who aren't married with children thathave short hair. And in case you didn't know when a woman becomes pregnant she gains wieght and its not always easy to get off especially when you can't go to the gym 5 days a week anymore.

Are there any parents on here with kids that have ODD? If so, how do you deal with the frustrations? ODD is "oppositional defiance disorder". Its a diagnosis alot of kids are getting today. I think its very much like ADD. Its probably real, but its overdiagnosed. I don't have a child with it, but I know a couple of families who are saying they have children who do.

Its hard for me to offer you good advice. I just know twenty-thirty years ago that this diagnosis was not given. Instead we called these children "naughty" or "badly behaved".

I'd examine lifestyle and diet issues carefully. Do both parents work? How much one-on-one time is this child getting with you and his father?

Finally, take a look at discipline practices in your home. Are you consistent? Do you set rules and stand by them? What discipline techniques have you used? Do you ground, take away privileges, or spank?

When I was seven if I got out of line, mom pulled down my pants and gave me a spanking with a ruler in my jockey shorts. It was a rough, but effective way to deal with a misbehaving kid. I'm not saying this works for a kid with a real problem, but if you haven't tried it, you might, before medicating him.

I was around my nephew recently and later learned he had lice. My head always itches so I did not think anything of it until I found a tiny bug under my fingernail I could not tell what it was I checked both of my kids and did not see anything My husband checked my head and did not see anything. Is it possible for 1 lice to be in your hair? Should I shampoo myself and kids?

Its possible,,,but I probably wouldn't do anything until you start feeling itchy and start scratching your head..My kids used to get it and I would think they all had it and take precautions but that stuff isn't cheap so I waited and used it when I KNEW they had lice...ALSO wash sheets and towels IN HOT water or they DO come back,,,GOOD LUCK!!!

Yes it is possible to only have one. DO shampoo, because the one you found may have deposited eggs, which have a one week gestation. Head checks everyday, and re-treat with shampoo in one week. Stay away from the spray. It is not that effectivce and very toxic to humans. DRY all bed linens and hats first, then wash them as usual. The heat will kill any eggs or immature nymphs. Best of luck. Lice multiply very rapidly so one would not be very likely. You will be more likely to see the "nits" or the eggs on the hair shaft. They are a tiny pearl like thing usually closer to the head. It is stuck there with a glue and cannot be removed easily. Look closely for the nits that is your best indicator. Lice shampoos are a chemical substance so unless you really need to avoid them. Some folks like to rinse their hair in vinegar if they think they have been exposed so you might try that.

Do the shampoo. My son had one this summer I left it untreated and we battled lice for over a month. Make sure you wash clothes,towels,%26amp; sheets in hot water with bleach. I found what helps some is take regular mayo and coat your hair in it wrap it in saren wrap and let stand on hair for about an 1 1/2 and it smothers the lice on your hair. Make sure you use that comb that comes with the lice kits to get all the dead ones out of your hair. I hope this helps you. I washed his hair in tea tree shampoo for about 2 months and it helped keep them out also.

Do NOT shampoo with pesticides 'just in case.' People here really need to research their answers before they go around giving people 'advice.' The lice preparations you buy from a chemist are pesticides and every pesticide has the potential to do serious harm, even if used 100% as directed.

It is possible you picked up one bug but unless it was a pregnant female or there are a pair they won't be able to reproduce. If there are no eggs present in your hair there is no need to start a full scale assault. I would simply cover your hair in a thick conditioner, cover your hair with a shower cap and leave it overnight. This will suffocate any live lice. If eggs are present get yourself some hair straighteners (flat iron) and zap them with that.

Please don't treat your whole family unnecessarily with pesticides.

I am getting my hair cut tommorrow. Right now my hair is shoulder length with layers that blend in with my hair and it looks like one length, and it is dark brown. I have an oval shaped face. My hair is thick but i dont mind straightening it.

I want something funky and with choppy layers. But i dont want anything too extreme like some scene kids with the mullets. I dont want a mullet either.

I also like to wear my hair in a ponytail often, but dont mind some face framing peices in the front.

I like the pic below, are those layers kinda scene like?

Yes! I think that's really cute! I have the same hair cut and face shape as you, and I'm getting a haircut and I've been looking for pictures. Would I be able to use the first pic to show my hairstylist the type of layers I want? I don't really want bangs, but just layers. If I could show her, that would be great! I also like the second pic, but I don't really want bangs on my hair. However, if you like them, I think they would look awesome with the layers in the first pic. Good choice! This girl at my school has perfect hair EVERYDAY!! im not kidding! we are in 8th grade, and she even makes a pony tail look good. And she isnt that pretty, she has really thick hair and its long, and blonde, is that the reason? lol idk

lol, ok get this, i'm in 8th grade and some of the girls in my grade sound EXACTLY like ur problem girl!!! :P

well, my hair is red/brown, thick and wavy. (our hair sounds similar too!! soo wierd XD) im sorta lazy (and considered a nerd, even tho i have popular friends...w/e) so i usually just put my hair in either a braid, bun or ponytail (out of my face in other words).

however, sometimes I flat iron or blow out my hair so it's reeeeally straight and then i let my side bangs out and wear it down, occasionally with a headband.

some of the girls @ my skool flat iron their hair every morning our do it every couple of days and dont wash it for a few days. if you have the time and patcience, try buying a GOOD flat iron (bad ones can ruin your hair and burn your ears/scalp) and straightening it every morning/every couple of days. when straightened, wear it down or down with a headband or a pretty clip.

another suggestion, straighten yur hair and then use a curling iron to make a few curls in the top layer of your hair (this process takes longer but looks very cute when done) :)

if you dont have as much time, sometimes a simple one braid down ur back or a ballet bun can look very pretty as well.

hairspray will keep your hair from coming out of a bun, Garnier Fructis make a very nice one that smells good, but idk what it's called, sry :(
