If one of my kid's had been taken i would be in a right state, i wouldnt be eating, i would have been crying.... the Mc Canns seem to have sailed through with no emotions un-till they got back last week, when his voice broke for a short moment. Why the New Hair-do ? and Why did she wash that toy. Why leave the kids in bed and go for a meal? In Europe they love the kids being out with them, so why couldnt they have kept them in a buggy next to them in the resturant? I used to when i was on holiday. This is just a few things i have been asked by other mums this week. What are your thoughts.

Maybe it's because as doctors they've learned how to switch off the sort of emotions the rest of us show, and having switched off at work, after all, you wouldn't want your doctor blubbing all over you, it would worry you to death, and somehow that detachment has extended into their private lives.

My guess is because you eventually go numb living through hell every day. And not just those who have lost a child.... think of concentration camp survivors and what THEY endured.
Yes they were stupid for leaving the kids alone and going to dinner. But until there is concrete proof they had something to do with her disappearance otherwise, stop speculating.

1) some people are just unemotional people
2) they were advised early on to not give in to their negative emotions and concentrate their efforts on finding her and staying positive for her sake
3) They are doctors who are trained not to let their emotions run away with them
4) some prefer to keep a stiff upper lip in public -remember the Queen when Diana died - people wanted her to show real public grief and were angry when she did not
5)The mother in particular looks zoned out in grief which happens to some people. She has gone numb, and with all the media attention it does not feel real to her, it probably feels like a bad dream. She has probably depersonalised herself away from the situation. When the media has left and a body is found she will eventually cry buckets in private
6) you say you wouldn't be eating - well Kate McCann has lost a lot of weight
7) they are religious people and they have hope and faith
8) they are trying to stay strong for the sake of their twins and try make everything as normal as possible for them by taking them to the park etc and not wallowing in grief

1. Some people decide not to let their emotions show because they feel emotions are a private matter and not for public consumption.
2. People in shock often show no emotion.
3. Not everyone reacts to things in the same way. They may be throwing furniture at home but appear under control in public.
4. If they had something to do with the disappearance, even accidental, they could be overreacting to their guilt by ttrying to show nothing.
5. They did it and don't feel any loss except a fear that they will be found out.

I must admit that it's something that crossed my mind a few times, although I never gave it much thought. But comparing the way they reacted when their 4 year old went missing, probably kidnapped by a pedophile, to those parents of the teenager who left after a row, it was quite puzzling.
Those parents were in a real state. The mother was trying to hold it together, whereas the dad was just about falling apart, nearly crying while reading his appeal to his daughter. Still, they did know that she hadn't been kidnapped, but had left and the chances were that she was safe.
Even myself, as a mum, I know I'd be in a real state if one of my child had gone missing. To be honest, the more I think about it, the more I realize that I wouldn't even be able to talk. I'd be in a real state.
Again, maybe they are pulling their strength from each other.
Maybe from their profession, being surgeons and having seen pretty bad cases.
Or possibly from their upbringing when they were not used to show their emotions.
I don't know.
I am feeling sorry to doubt them, but it's true that the more you think about it and with all those questions rising, you can't help thinking that, wait a second here....
I had lost faith and was just praying for the story to end, but I started praying again, hoping despite everything that that little girl may still be alive and kept somewhere.

Cos they know what realy happened and are trying to supress all emotion so as not to be found out. Did you see today that bodily fluids reportedto be form Maddy were found in boot of car and it was high in sleeping tablet drugs. Well being doctors they would have access to these and sound slike a case of drugging children to sleep so they could have a night out not worrying about whether Maddy would wake up. In mothers diary she wrote about difficulties caring fo Maddy as she had 'hysterical' behaviour-just a typical overactive, excited child on holiday.
Sound slike Portuguese authorities think Maddy had an overdose of sleeping tablets and then the body was disposed of to protect whoever did it! If they did it they deserve everything they get...personally a family holiday is just that not adults just having to tolerate their kids and looking forward to nights out without their kids, if that's the case then hire a nanny...for god's sake they are both doctors they weren't short of the funds to hire someone.....sad sad sad whatever the outcome

A report in the Sunday Times confirmed that the Portuguese Police instructed them not to show any emotion during interviewes etc because the kidnapper(s) may obtain some kind of vicarious pleasure from seeing their distress.
Also on one of your other points they were one of four couples that left their kids in bed whilst they had their meal as a group - they had also followed this practice on other nights during the holiday.
