i was 30 before i figured out what i wanted to be when i grew up.

id recommend going to college and getting your basics out of the way while you explore your options better.

Whoever gave you that advice is insane.

Most people get to college and change majors all the time. Not that that is a great idea either but it happens all the time.

Try researching some of the subjects you enjoy. See what types of careers they offer. Also consider the hours worked, the pay and things like benefits. Think about the long term. Ask yourself things like "can I see myself getting up and doing this every single day" "is this the type of career I want" "will this salary/pay buy the things I want--take me where I want in life"...

Its not easy. I have two degrees and have been out of school for a while now, still thinking about whether or not I made the right choice.

At the end of the day it's all about if you can handle it and how much you are going to be paid.

u dont want to rush into a career.

i have no idea what i want to do and i'm a senior.

i've decided to just take my basics for the next two years and hopefully by then i'll know what i want.

dont rush into a career and be one of those people that changes their major a million times.

u still have a while to find yourself!!

I think there is too much pressure in high school to know what you want to do. My sister is a high school senior who always thought she knew, but now she doesn't. I finished college and still didn't really know what I wanted to do. Now I work with children and teenagers, based in a church. Which I love, but has nothing to do with my degree.

I would say, go to college and do something you enjoy. Then see how it works out. In the UK, I read the other day that something like 30% of people still don't really know what they want to do when they are 30.

"They", whoever "they" is, don't know what they are talking about. You may not nail down what you think you want to do until you have been exposed to a few things, even college, after high school. The average adult changes careers 5 times over their lifetime, so any "career" may not necessarily be the real one or the final one for you. You need to experience some thnigs and from that choose a path, which most likely will change as you walk along it.

"They" are wrong.

I think this is a mistake a lot of teenagers make when they go straight into college- they have no idea what they want to do and end up wasting A LOT of money.

Don't worry about it- if you think it's going to involve some kind of secondary education, go into school intending on a 2-year Liberal Artrs degree and see if anything interests you.

Me, I changed majors 5 times before I settled on Accounting (because I picked up an office job where I was doing some basic stuff and found it interesting). Even with that, I've held all kinds of different jobs in business. So, don't stress over it so much. Think of it as a buffet and sample a bit here and there. You've always got time to change your mind.

(I didn't finally choose my career untill I was 27).

Personally I want to work with children which opens up loads of oppurtunitys. I'm considering travel like as a air hostess. Maybe even being a chef lol

I'm in high school and I don't have a clue yet tbh

Theres things I'd like to try but I just don't have my life planned out yet. Relax and don't worry, your not alone, many people your age don't know what they want to do yet x

I'd say that they are wrong. Many kids *do* know what path they want to take, but many also DON'T. Guidance counselors at school can help give you some suggestions. Also, local colleges may be of some help - call to see if there is something like a Career Planning department. I used to work in one, and we had some learning tools. You put in several interests and it would come back with a bunch of possibilities. (this was pre-internet)

Also, there are numerous sites online to use quizzes. If I get a chance, I'll try to find the one that seemed to help the most.

No you don't you could be any age. If you go to college in your 2nd year thats when you have to decide what carrer you want to take

hun heres the deal. i was told that too.. took all the courses i loved, and needed.

and now im stuck.. and i have do some more courses, that would get me a job in the world!, that apply to the world the most. that would give me a decent job, with good money.

so i'd say do sciences, maths, englishs, laws. even if you don't like it. cause i hate them all, but look ask yourself this.. how do you think your going to get into a good school, if you have an art credit, and it doesn't look that good. unless you are going into that feild. but if you have alot of maths, and all that people are going to choose you over others. see what i mean.

don't take of those self tests, either, most of us lie on it, and don't even get a proper answer... i would advice you to go to a school college, or uni.. a couple and see what courses they have.. and see if your interested!. in any of them. and then check what obs aply to that course, if you are going to make good money.

message therapist, and guidance, are too different things.but it seems like you like to work with people. so there one quality. in mind :) just thinking about yourself. and not what others think. its your own life, own future, your the one who's going to have to wake up every morning to do your job!, so make the bets out of it right now :) %26lt;3 goodluck!

"They" are wrong.

Most high schoolers are not properly informed about career options, and even with counseling they wind up changing career goals several times before settling on one.

At this point, just make sure you're taking a good college-prep course load--finish four full years of English, four of math, biology, chem, physics, foreign language, psych, history, and some arts and other social studies.

Also pursue extracurricular activities that you enjoy. College admissions officers are most impressed if you have pursued one activity consistently and rose to a position of leadership or recognition in it.

When you get to college, your first-year couses will be general education requirements--all college students are expected to complete first-year English, some science, some math, some social sciences, some arts, some cultural diversity, etc. While you complete those requirements, you'll get to know a lot more about different professions.

Meanwhile, your college will have a career development office. Get to them as early as you can and let them help you define your career goal--your first year in college is probably the right time to do that. They can administer some tests to assess your attitudes and aptitudes, and they can then provide you with a list of careers that you might find fulfilling--along with projected demand and salary for each. After you make a career choice, they can advise you about degree programs, and also later they can help you with job-hunting (in some cases, even putting you in contact with employers).

Yes, there are some jobs that pay well with no college education required, but 90% of the professional positions out there are going to require a degree. So aim for that, and you can refine your direction as you go.
